Writing A Business Case Sample
76Business Case Example
Need to write a business case example for developing your business or achieving your personal, major goals? This free advice simplifies the business case model through careful thought and planning. If you use the areas of this business case example then you will learn how to match your goals with the goals of the organisation you work for or even manage. For any of your business cases you will need to get the support and help of colleagues as well as access to resources. With the economy seemingly simmering on the brink of another recession this is not going to be an easy objective to achieve. I have divided the business case example into five different areas which are: personal goal, current situation, problem, solution and benefits.
Set a personal goal
For your business case example you must have a personal goal or your business case will be weak and you will have nothing to strive towards. If your personal goal is to become more efficient on Microsoft excel to improve your technical skills and be able to work smarter and faster in order to support your manager. This is just an example you could also want to improve your budgetary skills to give you more responsibility which could lead to a promotion. Either way if you identify a personal goal then a business case example is a great way to try to achieve it.
Current situation
If you are currently looking to improve via personal goal then analyse the current situation. As mentioned earlier I am looking to improve my Microsoft excel skills in order to work smarter and faster to help my manager. I know of a lady who will be going on maternity leave for one year and this is a great chance to ‘act up’ and show my capabilities. Having the goal of being more competent in a specialist area where you can see an opening of being a big benefit to your company is a great area that leads to a lot of success.
Problem
Clearly the problem with a lot of businesses is the amount of sick leave and maternity leave that is paid out which can lead to a shortage of resources. If you are reliant on a particular person to do a particular job and they are going off on long term sick or leave then who is going to do their work? This is where you can step in and ask for training and provide a great business case as to how you have identified a potential problem in your organisation.

Solution
As I have talked about finding a solution to the problem of a lack of resources within your department, organisation etc
In this particular case the business case example should have the obvious solution which is to either attend a course to be better equipped or on job training like shadowing a colleague within the department. Being able to multi task is an extremely important task of any individual in any business so a business case to improve yourself but written in a way that it benefits your organisation is a big tick in your box!
